Ian Dunlop is an independent art expert with extensive knowledge of the art world and international art market. The author of several books on art and a respected art critic based in the UK his expertise ranges from the Nineteenth Century to Modern and Contemporary Art. Formerly head of the Citibank Private Bank Art Advisory Service in London he is available for consultation on art collection management and the acquisition or disposal of works or art.

Ian Dunlop began his career as an art critic and worked for The Times and the Evening Standard in London. His award winning study of seven historic exhibitions of modern art, entitled The Shock of the New, was published in 1972. This was followed by books on Van Gogh, Munch and a major biographical study of the life and art of Edgar Degas.

For twelve years he worked for Sotheby’s in the US as an appraiser and expert on modern art and for a number of years he was head of the Contemporary Department at Sotheby’s, New York.

In 1996 he started the Citibank Photography Prize which has become the most valuable and most prestigious photography award in the UK.

Recently he has worked with an international bank and a US law firm helping find art for their headquarters and offices in London.
