The town is thirty five minutes by rail to the centre of Edinburgh and about fifty minutes by road to the airport. It is twenty minutes by road from Dunbar which is on the main line from London to Edinburgh. St Colms makes a pleasant base for those wishing to attend the Edinburgh Festival. There are many historic monuments and houses within easy reach of the town, including Tantallon Castle.

There are innumerable golf courses within a ten mile radius of North Berwick, the best known being Gullane One and Two and Muirfield , frequently voted the best golf course in the British Isles and the setting for many famous Open Championships.
